Konstantin Korovin

Konstantin Korovin (1861-1939) Portrait of the Actress Tatiana Liubatovich (~1880) The Russian Museum, St. Petersburg, Russia
The portrait is done in oil on canvas. The delicate stroke of the brush with the intricate detail of women’s face, accessories, dress and couch, make this image look realistic. The central subject of the painting is the actress Tatiana Liubatovich. The painter emphasizes her statue placing her on the window where the light is hitting her from the back making the women look delicate and fragile. Her creamy color dress is penetrated by the sun what demonstrates painters great ability to express the feel of the material. The black bows on her dress demonstrate class and sophistication. What stands out in this painting is the book she holds in her hands. The way she holds it expresses her calmness and enjoyment. The way women carry her self, the way she is portrayed; demonstrates her rank in the society. The background which is the scene behind the window suggest the worm season. Ref. Augustina Zygaite
