In this print, Goyo hoped to achieve an image that conveyed the sense of solidity and volume from his drawings by using line and flat color without recourse to shading. The woman, kneeling beside a basin with her clothing folded nearby, wrings out a cloth to wash before entering the soaking tub. I see delicacy and sensuality combined in this image, which interests me.
Also, the almost strange combination of Eastern and Western influence/worlds makes it somehow almost off-beat, as mentioned in the text.
Ah, det tog litet tid innan jag förstod vad du menade med ukiyo-e, "bilder av den förbiflytande världen". Jag har aldrig sett uttrycket förut. Man lär sig alltid något nytt. Även det tycks vara en vardaglig händelse.
